Depending on where you live on this beautiful earth, fall is the season of new beginnings and the transition between summer and winter. It includes the months of September, October, and November. The weather changes and gets a little more chilly in the mornings and at night, but you can still feel that warm sunshine during the day. It brings new produce too! As each season changes, so does the bounty that mother nature provides. So what’s popping up out of the ground during the fall season?

  • Brussels sprouts
  • Butter lettuce
  • Cauliflower
  • Cranberries
  • Diakon radish
  • Endive
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Grapes
  • Jalapeno peppers
  • Jerusalem artichoke

As you can see, there is an abundance of produce that grows during autumn. Fall produce is more savory than sweet, so how can you use the best of fall produce in a smoothie? There are so many ways to make smoothies taste delicious—it doesn’t have to be all about fruit! These recipes will have you loving the variety of fall produce and sipping on nutrient-dense smoothies every day.

The recipes below feature these fall produce items: pumpkin, butter lettuce, cranberry, ginger, apple, pear, and pineapple. Bonus: they are all gluten-free and vegan too. Enjoy!

1. Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Who doesn’t love pumpkin during the fall season? Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin everything! It’s a prominent flavor of fall, so why not make it into a smoothie too? This Pumpkin Pie Smoothie is creamy, decadent, and a healthy way to enjoy the pumpkin goodness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup full-fat canned coconut milk
  • 2/3 cup pumpkin puree (plain pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Handful of ice
Directions:

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.

Serves 1

2. Cranberry Ginger Smoothie

Cranberry sauce is a staple at the Thanksgiving table, so why not make cranberries a smoothie staple too? Tart and a little sweet, this smoothie will have you feeling refreshed and light among the heavy foods of fall. The ginger in this smoothie also helps with digestion! It’s the perfect way to start a fall day.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1/2 cup frozen cranberries
  • 2 pitted dates
  • 1 teaspoon ground or freshly minced ginger
  • Handful of ice
Directions:

Add all your ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until all the ice has broken down and the smoothie is smooth!

3. Cinnamon Pear Smoothie

There is something about cinnamon that screams fall. And with the abundance of pears that grow during the season, this smoothie is screaming for you. Choose from a variety of pears to use in this smoothie: d’Anjou, bosc, bartlett, comice—whatever you like best!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • Handful of butter lettuce
  • 2 d'Anjou pears (or your pear of choice)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Handful of ice
Directions:

Add ingredients to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy.

4. Pineapple Turmeric Twister

This smoothie brings a little bit of summer into your fall. It’s bright, refreshing, and tropical. So if you’re not quite ready to let go of summer or want sunshine in a glass, this smoothie is for you. It also containers turmeric, which helps with inflammation! Starting your day with the Pineapple Turmeric Twister is a great way to fight inflammation while enjoying a delicious smoothie.

5. Apple and Almond Butter Smoothie

Do you like apples dipped in almond butter as a snack? This smoothie conveniently brings all those flavors into one delicious glass. It’s filling, satisfying, and has fall written all over it. Apples contain fiber, which helps keep you fuller longer and streamlines digestion. Almond butter provides healthy fats so together it’s one nutrient-dense powerhouse! This smoothie is great as a midday snack or a filling breakfast. It could even be used as a dessert! It’s an all-in-one smoothie you can enjoy any time of day.
